چکیده
In this didactical note I review in depth the rationale for using generalised canonical distributions in quantum statistics. Particular attention is paid to the proper definitions of quantum entropy and quantum relative entropy, as well as to quantum state reconstruction on the basis of incomplete data. There are two appendices in which I outline how generalised canonical distributions link to the conventional formulation of statistical mechanics, and how classical probability calculus emerges at the macroscopic level. ∗email: [email protected]

On quantum vs. classical probability
Quantum theory shares with classical probability theory many important properties. I show that this common core regards at least the following six areas, and I provide details on each of these: the logic of propositions, symmetry, probabilities, composition of systems, state preparation and reductionism. The essential distinction between classical and quantum theory, on the other hand, is shown...
متن کاملMeasurement-based quantum foundations
I show that quantum theory is the only probabilistic framework that permits arbitrary processes to be emulated by sequences of local measurements. This supports the view that, contrary to conventional wisdom, measurement should not be regarded as a complex phenomenon in need of a dynamical explanation but rather as a primitive – and perhaps the only primitive – operation of the theory. ∗email: ...
متن کاملOptimizing Teleportation Cost in Multi-Partition Distributed Quantum Circuits
There are many obstacles in quantum circuits implementation with large scales, so distributed quantum systems are appropriate solution for these quantum circuits. Therefore, reducing the number of quantum teleportation leads to improve the cost of implementing a quantum circuit. The minimum number of teleportations can be considered as a measure of the efficiency of distributed quantum systems....
متن کاملDestruction of quantum coherence and wave packet dynamics
The development of short, powerful laser pulses and of sophisticated trapping techniques within the last few years has stimulated numerous theoretical and experimental investigations on the dynamics of wave packets in elementary, material quantum systems. These wave packets are non stationary, spatially localized quantum states which are situated on the border between the microscopic and macros...
متن کاملMacroscopic Quantum Coherence in Patient-Practitioner-Remedy Entanglement: The Quantized Fluctuation Field Perspective
Lionel Milgrom’s article (1) has stirred up considerable correspondence (2), mostly due to misconceptions of various kinds. Chrastina, for example (3), is quite wrong to attack Milgrom’s work over whether coherence in quantum systems can be maintained over macroscopic distances at high temperatures. All quantum field theories in solid state physics provide examples where this kind of assumption...
